Thanks heavens that it was raining when I got back home from Oregon. it cooled things down real nice, and its been relatively cooler since then, only in the low 90's. This made the house much more tolerable. I have a window AC unit cooliong down the living room, and I just spend all my time there.
That reminds me of a tale about our first years in the house my family now occupies in the western 'burbs of Go City. When we moved in, we discovered that the previous owners had left a window-mounted AC unit in the master bedroom on the second floor. So when it got hot out, we'd close all the windows upstairs and switch on that AC full blast. It kept the upstairs nice and cool provided we kept the door at the bottom of the 2nd-floor stairway closed as well. After a couple of years, my folks spent the money to have a central AC unit installed to keep the whole place cool, and got rid of the window unit (we've had central AC in the house ever since). Interestingly enough, the window AC unit had a unique electrical plug - one with vertical prongs instead of horizontal ones like most other appliances use - to connect to the house's electrical system. And the outlet required to plug it in was a special one that had vertical slots to fit that plug. However, after we switched to central air conditioning, we never replaced that outlet with a conventional one. It's still in the wall plate, on the right-hand side, under the two northern windows in the master bedroom.Quote:

I think the reason for that is because that particlular plug is used for high amperage appliances, usually 30-40 amps. This differentiates it from the standard plugs which are limited to 15-20 amps, thus the wiring for that plug has to be of a thicker gauge by code.Quote:

We missed our first snow by a 100 miles. St Louis almost had snow before Halloween...this whole year has been screwed up.
Today was sunny but cool - highs in the mid-40's. Supposed to go up into the 50's tomorrow, with no rain for the trick-or-treaters. It's supposed to go into the high 50's, and even into the 60's, around here by the middle of next week.
Frost in the morning, warmed up a little and is sunny.
Sunny out now, 59° hereabouts. Perfect weather for the kids to go trick-or-treating! :biggergrin:
Won't be much trick or treating here.
Our grandkids are doing the T or T thing tonight. Nellie is Elsa (or Anna? whatever) from Frozen and Robbie is the Flash.
