    "Nursery Crimes / Chasing Rufus"

CR - Apparently, the gravitational constant of cell phones is variable. :P

Oh, and a note about hot air balloons - every stuck your hand a few feet over a roaring campfire? Well, a hot-air balloon burner is several times hotter than that. On the order of 30,000,000 BTU's, in fact.

*Sigh...* and hot air balloons aren't under pressure, so they don't spurt around like popped party balloons when popped.

Wow... CR was really, really pointless.

    ----

NC - same as above. What in the world happened? These almost don't count as KP episodes. At least "Rufus Sitting" had some semblance of a plot, and some pretty good fight scenes.

    "...It's about the nanny academy."

Aaaaaand everybody's gonna twist around and freak out.... Yep, called that one.

"...OK, I was thinking that, but when you said it out loud, it sounded silly."
At least they're willing to be tongue-in-cheek about it.

    "...How do you fight babies?!"
Easy. You kick them in the head. They're at just the right height for it. :P

Errr... right. And as Kim is placing the babies on the conveyor belt, Nanny just stands there yelling, instead of cracking her cane over Kim's shoulders?

Sheesh... after "HU," that was a serious let-down.

I have to disagree 'chutes, they were both quite enjoyable, I loved the references to Go City and Hana.

'chutes!:P Shame on you! You're going to advocate kicking babies in the head? I thought an Eagle Scout would know better [grin].

On a more serious note, I can understand where you are coming from, but I agree with Twila myself. I didn't think they were that bad. I think the difference is that they were done in the "silly" vein, like many of the earlier episodes were. We are getting used to the shows now tending to be a little more serious, showing the development of the relationship.

"Oh no, Yono" was a little more dangerous, and Kim and Ron kissing at the end of it showed that they were worried a little more than usually about each other. "Clean Slate" is where we hear Kim declare her love for Ron (more or less). "Homecoming Upset" is where we see more than the usual romantic emotions between them on the dance floor, especially from Kim. It's all leading up to the finale I think. So the insertion of these two short episodes is sort of like a hiccough. It reminds me of "The Trouble with Tribbles" from Star Trek, a humorous episode which was a departure from the more serious morality plays the other episodes tended to portray.

So CR/NC was just a departure, a return to the silliness that was often seen in some of the early episodes I think. ("Royal Pain" particularly comes to mind......)

Oh, I do. I just choose to ignore said fact. :P (That, and most babies aren't fully sentient and actively trying to cause me bodily harm.)

I think I was disappointed that "CR" was more-or-less a rehash of "Rufus Sitting," only with less coherence. And the re-use of credit footage from "Trading Faces" (?) was a bit of a "Awww, c'mon!" moment. Bluetooth the Pirate at FF.net came up with a credit gag that would've been hilarious -

    Ron: *Crunch* Yes!

Kim: Ron! Not again! I can't believe you're going to leave me back here for another 12 hours while you marinate in...

Ron: *Gently taps KP's seatback with one finger. It falls flat.*

    Kim: Eeep! *pause*

    Kim and Ron: (together) Steward!
I suppose my expectations had been raised a bit high by "HU." My hope is "CR/NC" was sub-par because most of MSB's energies went into making "HU" great. It'd looked very promising until right after the chopper took off. I'd been hoping for another "Rufus in Show" before the series ended, but I guess nobody bats .400.

As for many S1 episodes being "sillier," I don't quite agree. While many episodes were delightfully wacky (SSJ: ...I have no use for the beaver, and the otter was off-key."), a preponderance of them seemed un-silly, for lack of a better term. Drakken was a much more credible threat, and the devices seemed potentially more effective. From TTT:

Ron: ...I don't think we're safe anywhere, but chases make me hungry.... Chimirito?

Kim: No, thanks. I'm trying to focus on the thing on my nose THAT'S GONNA BLOW ME UP!
