Another question (then I'll leave you alone) Since I happen to be familiar with the software this forum is using, Can spoiler tags be used?

There is a way right now to do it, although it's a little unwieldy. I have a forum up in the general announcements that deals with this. It's the "How to use the spelling checker and other services" forum There is one thread that tells you how to put in the codes for spoiler text. I have to go and search for a mod at vBulletin that will let me do this more easily although what I have to do is simply adjust a couple of the color choices in text color to do this correctly. I will put out an announcement when I figure it out and get it done.

Well, all we have to do is put this before & after the text:

    I'll test it now.
M.I.
And it blacks out the text and if you put your cursor over it to see it.

    Thats my knowledge of it.

spoiler: This is a test message end of message
Unfortunately, that won't work here.. For example:
this is a test message.[\spoiler]

You have to do it in the standard editing window (white background) and do it this way:

spoiler: This is a test message end of message

If you want to put in spoilers on quoted text, look at the message I put in your quoted text above.

All right. I searched around and didn't find an answer to this:

Do I have to reach a certain post count in order to have an image for my sig show up in my posts?

    What if you were banned?

Any discplinary action would be done through a set procedure that would afford a user who has allegedly committed an infraction a chance to respond to the allegation by PM to the admin (me) or the mod in question. The user would always be informed of any such disciplinary action in full as to what the infraction was and what the displinary action would be and why it was done. Banning would be a procedure done only under the most grievous circumstances.

We are not looking to control people here on the GJA. We want you to be expressive and to contribute to the forum. At the same time, a certain decorum is required to maintain the forum as a child friendly environment. So this would of course preclude any overly adult material and generally offensive behavior. Granted, your definition of what that is may differ somewhat from what we have as a definition, but we ask that you conform to the rules we set.

For example, If someone uses a user name that we find is a little questionable, or uses a sig picture that is a little too adult, we will ask that user to change it. If the user doesn't want to do that, the governing members may make it an issue and vote on it, and we may or may not force the change. All such discipline actions are not arbitrarily done by individual admins or mods, unless the offensing material is deemed too inflammatory, in which case the admin/mod will soft delete it temporarily until the governing members can make a decision on the disciplinary action. In the event the governing members disagree with the disciplinary action, it will be reversed. If they agree with the action, the delete will be made permanent. All these actions are eventually decided by majority vote of the governinig members. The user is encouraged to discuss the issue with the governing members and/or the admin/mod involved by PM. The vote may either reverse the disciplinary action or sustain it.

Outright bans would be a rare event and would probably only happen in the event of repeated offenses and several warnings to stop behavior that the user does not heed. An overt spammer who blasts the board would probably be banned outright for obvious reasons. Someone who comes on and blasts a lot of pornographic material all over the place would also be banned outright, again for obvious reasons. Other than that, an outright ban would likely be unheard of. Even in the case that a user is banned, the affected user who has been banned may have the option of returning at a later time, provided the offending behavior will not recur.

On the ARA, it was possible for a member there to be banned or queued simply for posting on RS.net or SDS. There was a prevailing procedure adn opinion by the admin that there should be no "association" with the "enemy". We do not hold to that view here. We respect the right of free speech, provided it is done respectfully. If you are a member here, and a member elsewhere, you have the right to say whatever you wish in conformance with the rules of that other forum.

So for example, if you go onto RS.net and say the GJA is a pile of rubbish and you don't ever want to go back, that is your right. It is not a reason for us to act against you officially simply because you expressed that opinion. Of course, RS.net or SDS doesn't allow bashing of other forums so they would probably delete that, but that is a matter between you and them. The same would happen to anyone who bashes them here.

Of course, the members here would probably not be real pleased with you either, and may point a few barbs back at you in response (I hope respectfully, of course, and in conformance with our rules).

But my point is that what you say on other forums is not our business to police. It is their business to police. If it is seen that you are physically committing actions that would harm or threaten the GJA, such as hacking the site or spamming it, then that would be cause for possible disciplinary action even if those actions are done outside the forum, because the defense of the forum is necessary in such a case.

Mainly, I want to impress that any such disciplinary action done here will be done by rules and procedures, not by the decision or whim of any one person. Those of us who left ARA to come here are far too familiar with that system of running a board and have no wish to repeat it.

What's the policy on posting links here to submissions on deviantART? I know on the ARA they weren't allowed because someone might accidentally stumble on some adult content, but has that changed here? I'm just wondering, because there's some good stuff there, both KP-related and non-KP-related.
