    Ranks and Permissions, Explanation

The ranks and permissions are very similar to what was followed on the ARA, with just some slight differences due to differences in the software packages used.

I'm not complaining, but I still think it's funny that members who post rather infrequently, but at the same time are long time members still have to be wary of flood control.

You have a good point. Flood control was used at ARA as an incentive to get people to post in order to get out of it. It's actually meant to be a control against spamming elsewhere. The flood control here on the vBulletin software is universal, so I cannot set it individually for usergroups. I have set it at thirty seconds for everyone for that reason. It still serves as a good anti-spamming measure, and very few real posts are going to go up faster than thirty seconds. I have a modification installed which allows individual usergroup assignments for flood control, but for some reason is not working. I am presently looking into getting that fixed.

As I said before, no complaints here.

Also, I wanted to say that I think you've been doing a real bang up job with this forum, and I wish you the best of luck keeping it going!

I'm curious: how come jeriddian has three different ranks besides Administrator? If you look at this page, available at the "View Forum Leaders" link on the index page, he's listed as an Exalted Member, an Honored Elder along with TWD and 'chutes, and as the one and only Venerated Elder.

Is someone's hat getting a little tight? I'm picturing him sitting in a throne room decorated with massive busts of himself à la The Supreme One.

*Ahem*......Do you dare to question my royal status, knave? How gauche to even compare me to this so-called "Supreme One". I do not hold that status anymore....not since I was promoted........by myself. Must you peasants be so revolting?......

Now, now......I meant revolting against EP......put that away!.......Ow! I don't like tomatoes!....especially not the rotten ones! Who took my trash can lid away?!.....Hey, quit trying to give me a wedgie! My underwear's expensive! No! I don't have seahorses on them! So what if they're pink hearts? None of your beeswax! No! not in there! Not in there!.....

    SLAM!

(six hours later) Somebody let me out! I'm a Bon-diggety Dancer!.....

[Excuse me while I go back and clean up my own profile of all the junk I was doing when I first was setting the forum up. I hadn't realized I had left all those things marked.]

    Heh.

I happened to notice that the rest of us seem to fall under both the "Registered Members" group, and our respective ranks... and that the Moderator group appears twice, at the top (with the forum listing) and alphabetically (without the listing). I just found that a little odd, but I can understand how the setup may produce that result.

That's cute. Another amusing thing I just noticed is that every group is named in its singular form in the headings (i.e. "Member," Veteran" and so forth) except for three: Administrators, Moderators and VIP's ... all of which have precisely one name listed under them!

Okay, maybe you have to have proofread as much as I have to laugh at that one.

Well, part of that is how I had to set up the usergroups. There are primary and secondary usergroups. The primary usergroups include, Administrators, Moderators, Supermoderators, Banned users, Unregistered or guests, Users awaiting email confirmation, users awaiting moderation, and registered users.

What I had to do was create secondary usergroups under the registered users primary group and that is why you show up both as registered users and then the usergroup rank you are in as well. VIP's are completely separate from the other usergroups, but are still listed as a secondary group underneath registered users. This is because the software won't let me create any more primary usergroups.

Hmm, I looked back over the archived thread, and I have to ask, "Please can the last two ranking's names be changed. I (And I'm sure others) find them to be incredibly offensive, dictator-like, and dishonorable."
