How does a FanFiction writer influence real life?

When lines from his stories begin to be quoted by others in stories and even in reviews of other writers' works.

The example that triggered this post: a review I received for "Something to Drink?"

I don't know how interesting this fanfic tidbit might be, but I've received more than a few comments on Kimi's vocal syntax and mannerisms - particularly the abovementioned "Clue Bee", and her trademark phrase, "all about", and her usage of it.

One of my readers went far enough into the realm of KiSpeak to ask what sparked her curious language habits. I answered with the truth - it had to do with something I heard - or in this case, hadn't heard.

While putting together parts of Ki's personality, I wanted to put something together that was in the same general vein of KP, yet not to the point of imitation. If I were pressed to an answer, I would have to say that the biggest base resource of creating Kimi Hodge was the Season 1 Kim - easiest not only because of the simliarity of ages between Kimbo and Ki in their respective timelines - Season 1 and Steel Swan. Both were fueled by their teen bravado, and it took them in directions not many people go - even in their speech patterns.

One night while I was constructing the storyline and notes for SS, I had a KP DVD going for background, with the volume low. Kim actually uses "all about" quite a bit, although in a more conventional syntax.

I can't remember the episode at the moment, but Kim said the line, "The Seniors are all about the challenge." At the low volume I had the TV at, it sounded like the "the" was left out - leaving "The Seniors are all about challenge."

Ba-Da-Bing! Ki's catch phrase was born, inspiring lines like, "Life was all about diamond until this kicked down the door and moved in," "I...don't think I'll be asking what or where this place is...and it's all about sure I don't want to be here again." and "It's all about silver goes with my eyes".

Heh...I've even got a couple of reviews for SS where the posters used "diamond".

Speaking of Cellerfan, the newest commerical from Esurance (yes, I am hopeless, aren't I?) reminds me strongly of a certain... coworker from "Life With Kim." :whistle:

"....Mind your own business," Brian shot at Tina. "This doesn't concern you. It's between me and this--" he looked Kim up and down once "--this cartoon-lookin' freak....... The next time you cause me trouble, I'll just wait until the next break or lunch...and drag you out here and--" he punctuated his last words by poking his first two fingers at Kim's shoulder rather hard, "--kick... your... as-aaAAHHH!"

His threat was cut short as Kim swiped her hand across her body, grabbing Brian's fingers and, with a flick of her wrist, turned his hand palm-up, bending his fingers down at a painful angle. Kim narrowed her eyes angrily at him and she spoke through gritted teeth. "First of all, Page 6 of the Employee Guidelines manual says that harassment of any co-worker in any form will not be tolerated.

"Second, if you need to pick on women to boost your ego, you have more problems than I could possibly help you with. Third, unless you're a red belt or better at Karate, you're picking on the wrong woman.

"And fourth--" she punctuated the last point with a slight swift jerk downward, causing Brian to gasp in pain, "--DON'T call me a car-TOON!"

I remembered this little scene particularly well because it was one of the more bad*** moments from "Life With Kim."

Oh yeah. That scene. Looking on it now, it could be an indicator as to Kimi's quirk of letting her emotion weasel win out over her Karate tiger.

Brian? Hapless, rocker wannabe Brian? Hah! If Grunge Boy had to try to adopt an air like the guy in that commercial, his face would melt.
