You're absolutely right; they did flip a car over with the jet blast from a 747 - also a school bus, and a light plane too.
    :P
I thought that was a Brainiac episode. Wasn't MB's attempt abortive because they didn't have the right engine?
No, it all went off without a hitch, several times, and each time it was amazing.

Of course, each time the Mythbusters flipped a vehicle, they had the 747's engines running at full throttle. Wasn't the myth about a car or truck that got flipped while driving past a jet that was taxiing, or idling in line on a taxiway? The engine thrust would be far lower then; not nearly enough to flip a motor vehicle over. In fact, once when I was a student pilot, I was preflighting the Cessna 152 I was flying that day when a business jet that was parked nearby started its engines and taxied away. For a moment, I was caught in its jet exhaust but it wasn't strong enough to fling me through the air. It was more like being blasted by a giant blow dryer - warm air pushing against me, causing my pant legs to flutter. I wisely turned my back to the blast when I saw the jet start to roll away from me, and I held onto my plane until it ceased. I was still on my feet, unharmed, afterwards.

Wow, that would be weird if cars and stuff did actually get blown away with the engine on a lower speed. It could end up on one of those "Mythbusters Revisited" episode if they didn't do that myth right.

By the way, has anyone seen the new Discovery Channel commercial where they're all singing? There's a version where Adam sets Jamie's arm on fire-I find that so funny.

I, probably like many others, come for the science and stay for the explosions. :P I particularly like the experiment they did testing the effect of water on bullet stopping power. You scoff at that action movie-trick for years, but then realize, "Hey, they were right!"
Ever since I saw that episode I've still been amazed that water can stop even the highest powered bullets. I can't really get that through my head. It's just cool!

Adam and Jamie are great, and so are the others on the show. Their personality brings a lot to solving the myths, and is a large part of why I watch, in addition to the cool science and explosions.

I think the first episode I saw was when Adam was testing the myth about ways to get out of a sinking car. It was really informative, actually.
Yes, it was. They showed us what works and what doesn't work when it comes to safely exiting a sinking car. I was intrigued by the lengths they went to to ensure a realistic enough simulation - including replacing the car's engine with its weight in ballast under the hood (necessary since they submerged the car in a local high school's swimming pool; they didn't want its water contaminated by any motor oil or other fluids leaking out of the vehicle).

I got my friend watching Mythbusters the other night. She's usually not one for this type of stuff and doesn't generally watch the Discovery Channel, but she enjoyed it. It was the episode dealing with hypnosis and using sound waves to put out fires.

I'm looking forward to an episode where they bust the moon landing hoax truthers. It was apparently filmed earlier this year.

"Bust the moon landing hoax truthers?" You mean they're going after those clowns who claim the moon landings were faked? I want to see that myself.

Phil Plait had something about it on his Bad Astronomy page http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/page/2/, he apparently talks to the cast from time to time. Given all the air time the truthers have had, it's about time the reality faction got some hits in.

Well, you get a PhD in a relevant field, work for NASA or another big letter agency for a few years, then........
