"my Mac won't let me take pictures of the screen when a DVD is playing."

The application won't let you, but you can do with a Terminal command:

    screencapture ~/Desktop/image.jpg

This can be called from AppleScript, in the form:

    do shell script "screencapture ~/Desktop/image.jpg"

I used this to write up a script which automatically hides the controller and zooms to full screen, then names the image to the current timecode.

    -- Start of Applescript --
    tell application "DVD Player"
    activate
    set controller visibility to false
set viewer full screen to true

set theTime to elapsed extended time
set theFrame to item 2 of theTime
set theTime to item 1 of theTime
set theMinutes to round (theTime / 60) rounding down
set theSeconds to theTime - (theMinutes * 60)
if (theMinutes < 10) then set theMinutes to "0" & theMinutes
if (theSeconds < 10) then set theSeconds to "0" & theSeconds
if (theFrame < 10) then set theFrame to "0" & theFrame
    set theTitle to theMinutes & theSeconds & "-" & theFrame & ".jpg"

    end tell

do shell script "screencapture ~/Desktop/scr" & theTitle

    tell application "DVD Player"
set viewer full screen to false
    set controller visibility to true
    end tell
    -- End of Applescript --

Got a similar script that works with Quicktime to do the iTunes versions.

I think I might try that.

At least with iTunes episodes, all you have to do is pause the player and take a picture of the screen.

I have to agree with smithers on this one. Until I see an official announcement from Disney about Season 1 boxed sets here in the States, I'm taking this announcement with a grain of salt.

    Oh, that's not good news.

Guess I should keep those iTunes episodes for the time being...

The good news is that signing up for the alert costs nothing but a few electrons. The advantage is that it might indicate a trend of interest to the Disney marketing people, you can't really lose on it.

I've signed up for a few of these and I've seen all of them come out. Yea, a few took a year or so, but some was a few months. So just take a few minutes and sign up.

Thanks for the heads-up. I signed up for the alert.

My only concern is that (in the far future) I assume I'll be migrating to Blue-ray if that format ever becomes as dominant as DVDs are now. I've haven't been buying any DVDs because I don't want to spend money for the same thing twice.

The thing is, how long will it be before Disney ports over to Blue Ray, plus I still maintain a VHS, which has far more moving parts than a DVD player, simply because some things have yet to appear on DVD.

Yeah, right now I'm okay holding off on buying new DVDs, but if something comes out that I *really* want....

Despite how much I like KP currently it's a toss-up as to whether I buy the DVD box set. I already have all the eps on VHS so there's slightly less urgency to do so. I'll just have to see how long I can wait.
