Send Your Name to the Moon - There's Still Time!
Anyone out there who's interested in space exploration can have their name added to a list on a microchip that will be carried to the moon aboard a probe called the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, scheduled to be launched later this year. But you have to do it soon - the deadline for submission is this Friday, June 27. Just click on this link:http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/main/index.html
Then go to the box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen that says, "Your Name to the Moon!" and click where it says, "Add your name." You'll get to submit your first and last names, and it'll allow you to print out a nifty certificate (numbered, no less ) certifying your participation in this project. You can download it as a PDF document, and print it out as a hard copy. I've already put my name in - anyone else want to? ('Chutes, I thought you might be interested in this the moment I saw it.)
But hurry - time's running out!

Cool! Just did it - and this after seeing the "When we left Earth" series on Discovery as an added boost!
Is it OK if I copy your post to duplicate on the VASTS program forum?

Sure! Go ahead - we'll get more folks to respond that way!

Yeah; I hope my program gets a kick out of it.
I, uh, also added "James T. Possible" to the microchip; it seemed fitting.

I signed up twice. Once with my name and the second with Jean-Luc Picard. I hope NASA weeds out fictional duplicates -- I can't imagine I'm the only one who thought of Picard.
Edit. Because 'moniker' doesn't mean what I thought it did. Oops.
Why is everyone who drives slower than me an idiot, and everyone who drives faster a maniac?

I was tempted to put in Strong Bad, but I decided to fight that temptation.
I just added mine, and that of a friend.

I wonder if anyone's put in the name 'Alice Kramden'? That's one that should definitely go "to the moon!"

Added my name. Something about it going into space is just way too cool!

I'm sure they will; they're well aware that folks will try & add their favorite characters' names to that list. If I were doing something like this, I'd be editing out the fictional names.
I'm sure they understand why the fans do it, though.
BTW, thanks to everyone from the GJA who submitted their name to the list - it shows our support for the space program as well as giving us a shot at immortality (well, sort of).
There's still some time left - deadline's this Friday. So those of you who haven't yet, well, better hurry.
