Vlad Tepes was none other than Vlad the Impaler, the 15th-century Balkan tyrant who served as the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
How appropriate that Mr. Weber named that vessel, and its commander, after one of history's bloodiest tyrants!
Good catch there, TWD. Well done.

Thanks! It only took me 19 years to catch that reference....

Hey, TWD (and other fans), look out for the next Honor Harrington (#19), Shadow of Victory, which will be released November 1, only a week away.

Well, I finished reading Shadow of Victory. I'm not going to reveal any spoilers except to generally say the progress of the battle against the Mesan Alignment has progressed more. However, I am also somewhat disappointed. This was more of an Honorverse book rather than an Honor Harrington Book. It's more than 500 pages, yet she appears exactly on only two pages of the entire tome, about halfway through. There was also the introduction of a great number of new characters that never appeared before, and likely will not be heard from again to any great degree in the future. It was very difficult to keep up with the entire progress of events and trying to keep the entire storyline (and characters) straight. Diehard Honor Harrington fans will slog through and will be able to make sense of it, and it does significantly advance the entire storyline towards it projected ending (As I understand it, David Weber intends to tie and end this entire storyline within the next one or two books). Nonetheless, it was not as satisfying to me as I had hoped to see a lot more from the main character herself.

I bet I'll be completely lost, since I started feeling that way about 4 books ago.

Hope the Safehold series continues soon.

Funny you say that. The next Safehold volume, At the Sign of Triumph, has just now become available for purchase.

At Windycon this past weekend, I spoke with some members of The Royal Manticoran Navy, the official Honor Harrington fan association, and they hadn't heard of what jeriddian reported. Two books is nowhere nearly enough volumes to wrap up as complex a storyline as what David Weber has written in this series of novels - it'll take a lot more than that to tie up every loose end, IMHO.
BTW, I joined that fan association over the weekend - it's free! Here's a link: http://db.trmn.org/register.php

Thanks, TWD. I'll look into that. The rumor I read was vague. I said one of two books, but it could be more. I just read from a supposed insider that Weber does have a planned ending of the series and it would come about fairly soon, but not necessarily in one or two books
