KP and SW - no, not a fan fic...

OK, so last night I was at a sneak preview of the new animated Star Wars Clone Wars flick, and found something nagging at me during some of the scenes.

You know when a voice is really familiar, but out of context? That kind of cranial itch.

It struck me, as I was watching a ship's commander kowtow to Obi-Wan and Mace Windu. The over-pompous British tones of the commander made my brain zig where it had heretofore zagged, and I finally recognized the voice.

    Monkey ninjas in space, indeed.

It's not even like he was changing his voice, I mean, at all. It was Monkeyfist barking orders to Clone Troopers on the bridge of a proto Star Destroyer. Weird. I also realized he was the narrator (which was horrible).

I do like Tom Kane's voice work, I just didn't expect the same Monkey Fist voice in Star Wars. At least he did an excellent job as Yoda.

On the other hand, I didn't recognize Nika Futterman (Asajj Ventress / Zita Flores) until the credits. And I had to look up to see Kevin Michael Richardson (Ziro the Hutt / Slim Possible / Warhawk). Ziro's voice was close to taking the award for Worst Fitting Voice To Character In A Movie. There are probably other KP alumni, but I didn't see them.

And in other Star Wars/KP related media, I also ran across a review of Clone Wars that likened one of the new characters to Kim Possible, and they even mention Ron. Personally, I liked the new padawan, she had the best lines.

Slightly off-topic, spoiler-free thoughts on SW: Clone Wars. If you've seen the earlier Clone Wars, it's more of the same, but with more talking and they've made it for younger audiences. They dumbed the battle droids down so they're Larry, Moe and Curly, essentially, but it kinda worked. Overall I enjoyed it, and I might even have willingly paid to see it. (My company here in Denmark works with Lucasfilm and some of us employees got to attend a preview screening.)

Plus, I kinda have to be nice about the movie, a friend of mine wrote it.

Ahsoka is supposed to be one of those go-to girl cartoon heroes like Kim Possible, but she’s annoying like Kim’s sidekick, Ron Stoppable, and not as endearing.
I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, but will admit that I'm not real interested in this one (there is some hope, Lucas stuff is a lot better if he sticks to general concepts and lets others handle the details, he has said that he can't write), I'll wait til it comes out on DVD, though. If it's like the first or last or whatever they are, three (the most recently released episodes) this may be one of those that is in need of a six pack or so to go with it. The video game style animation is rather off-putting already. Some friends are planning to go, so I'll see what they say before dropping any money on it.

Something like that would be pretty cool scene in a KP movie, actually.

I'm surprised Kim garnered a mention, given that this was a normal newspaper article and there was no context for KP. Kimmie-Cub's got reach!

Substitute "Space Station" for "Star Destroyer" and "Monkey Ninjas" for "Clone Troopers" and it's already been done.

Kim Possible: she just won't fade away!

Edit - Just got back from seeing it myself. Ziro's voice was definitely incongruous. And the admiral did indeed sound very much like a certain monkey master...

I've always felt that Ron and Rufus' characters were comparable to C-3PO and R2-D2, in that 3PO and Ron both tend to complain a lot and panic in tight situations; whereas R2 and Rufus both keep their heads and come up with clever solutions to get out of trouble.
    Comments or disagreements, anyone?

(I've always had this image in my mind of Han Solo, after spending an hour or so with Ron, rolling his eyes and muttering, "...And I thought Threepio was bad...")
