Quiet around here, everybody studying for finals or something?

I think the main problem is that TransWarpDrive hasn't been here since Saturday. He usually has something to add to just about every current thread.

Obama appoints Nobel Prize-winning physicist to Department of Energy post.
Appointing someone who actually knows something about the department they'll be managing? Goodness gracious, what a concept!

A crowbar, of course.
Nice try 'Chutes, but Freeman graduated from MIT, not Berkley.

Wasn't Chu involved in that Bio-X(?) program? A lot of scientists with different backgrounds working on major issues like climate change and alternative energy. Chu also had done stuff with biofuels and solar power.
All this just to say that Chu isn't just a bench scientist -- he has experience in other areas including green tech and managing a disparate group of people. I'd guess this in part is what Obama likes about him for Energy.
And how is a crowbar related to Berkley? Whoooooosh over my head.
Why is everyone who drives slower than me an idiot, and everyone who drives faster a maniac?

Well, it's not related to Berkley, but it is associated with a certain theoretical physicist...

The joke being that scientists from Berkley sit around trying to get grant money while scientists from MIT go out and fight alien invasions. :P

I happen to have a daughter who's a scientist from MIT, and I'm pretty sure they like themselves some grant money too. :P
