Last night, apparently a gun fight down the street. Sounded like a couple of shotguns then some rapid fire pistol. Police and ambulances all over the place. Still don't know what happened.

Some yahoos in my area decided to shoot off some fireworks last night. So that's what I heard for a while. Of course, yesterday was when my suburb held its annual St. Patrick's Day parade, so that's probably why I heard the fireworks. The parade is held on a north-south main street a half mile east of where I live, so we didn't try driving anywhere until after the parade ended to avoid the crowds, traffic, and the detours. Not to mention all the drunken idiots stumbling around....

Hilary Hahn playing the Felix Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor with the Oslo Symphony Orchestra. She made this recording when she was just 23 years old.

While out running some shopping errands this afternoon, I listened to Elton John's first "Greatest Hits" album on my car stereo.

We went to Boston for a concert by the Handel & Haydn Society (period instrument group) this afternoon. They played Mozart's Masonic Funeral Music and his clarinet concerto, and finished with Beethoven's 7th symphony.

II don't think the cell phone of the woman across the aisle from me was exactly "historically informed," but oh well.

I'm in favor of taking away anyone's cell phone that rings during a concert or in a cinema, and smashing it to bits with a ball-peen hammer while the owner is made to watch.
