    The Fifth Annual Fannies Awards

    Can I get a Texas-sized BOOYAH?

That's right folks, it's that time again, time for the Fifth Annual Fannie Awards! This time, we are looking at the best of the best for the year 2009, and there are quite a few to choose from this year. The new season continued to have drawn interest as we saw a further influx of new authors and new ideas, giving us almost 1,000 new and updated stories this year. So many tales to choose from, so little time…Not bad for a show that rose off into the sunset…
So let's get to what this is all about! You, the people, are the ones that decide who wins each and every award! Make your selections on the handy list I'm providing below. Any story written or contributed to in the year is eligible to win, with one exception. Those stories and writers who won previously in a category can not win again this year, though the awards for Best Writer and Best Series can be the previous winners again after 2 years. Rounds 1 and 2 information
This year, there will still be 2 rounds.
Nominations for the final round will begin at 12:02 AM on January 31, 2010 and end at 11:59 pm EST on February 27, 2010. These ballots will be done as normal, by the ballot form provided below. Ballots should be emailed to f2009 at cremosp dot com.
Zaratan will be handling the vote monitoring and counting duties, enlisting others are required for assistance.
The second round will start immediately after that. There is one difference from last year though, and it's that the second round will only be the top 5 in each category plus ties as opposed to top 3. So now, the top 5 vote getting stories and writers in each category will be entered in the secret poll format hosted on Zaratan’s forum on fanfiction.net as in previous years ( http://www.fanfiction.net/forum/Kim_...iscussion/329/ ) . For those without an FF.net account, you can email your response to f2009 at cremosp dot com, and Zaratan will add it to the final count. This round will run for another 3 weeks (one week longer for votes in this round than last year), until 11:59 pm EST on March 20, 2010.
The awards show will then start on Friday evening, April 2, 2010, after all votes have been tabulated, award winner speeches submitted and added, and all the details are finalized.
    Presenters:
This year, I am doing something a bit different: I’m starting with the current year’s winners for their awards and offering them the opportunity to present their award (if you receive more than one award, you may only present one). All awards open for presenters as of 12:01 AM on 24 January 2010 will be opened up to a first-come, first accepted option. All presentations will be due to me by 12:01 March 7, 2010, and I will be following-up prior to that date on any not yet received.
    Dates:
The same process will be followed as in the past: I will open a thread, allowing all to propose their dates to the awards.
    Awards:
The Awards presentation will be preceded by Red Carpet introduction as in past years, but the actual awards themselves will be streamlined to include only the award presentations (and any special items).
    Story?
    Stay tuned….
Shameless Self-Promotion and Other Promotion threads
I will open threads for both topics before the nominations begin.
    Final comments:
Commander Argus: sir, you are missed, and you will be remembered.
On a personal note, I would like to thank those members of the Fannie Awards Committee: Zaratan, Triaxx, King in Yellow, and CaptainKodak for all of their efforts in past years. I started after the first Fannies were finished, and was pleasantly surprised to see the awards existed after I published my first story. My award, shared with King in Yellow for Best New Writer, gave me thrills and energized me during my time in the hospital when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I know, from talking to other writers on the site, that the honor is being nominated in the first place: that tells the writer that their work is recognized by others as being of some quality.
Most importantly, I’d like to thank the writers and readers here on the KP site. Without you, these awards would not exist and would be meaningless.
I cannot do this alone, and I thank Zaratan for the offer of assistance. I agreed to do this (and, no, Zaratan did not have a gun at my head!), and I’ve already learned why Zaratan deserves sainthood for doing this, even once. I’ll be calling on others to assist me as required: I’m not shy about requesting help. This entire production is made possible thanks to the assistance of lots of people, and they’ll be thanked at the end.
So, there you have it folks. Get ready to place your votes, and get ready for the party! This should be a blast!

    Please note dates below....

Ladies, Gentlemen, Naked Mole Rats, and Hairless Cats:

With my taking on the full responsibilities on the first round nominations and the collection/totaling/verification of the votes, the start of the second round of voting has been delayed for 7 (seven) days to March 6, 2010. I apologize for the delay, but RL and two courses of antibiotics take a toll on a person.

Voting will begin later this week as I compile the first round results and create the polls. Charaters, stories, and writer in each category will be entered in the secret poll format hosted on Zaratan’s forum on fanfiction.net as in previous years ( http://www.fanfiction.net/forum/Kim_...iscussion/329/ ). For those without an FF.net account, you can email your response to f2009 at cremosp.com, and I will add it to the final count. This round will run for only two weeks, until another 3 weeks (one week longer for votes in this round than last year), until 11:59 pm EST on March 27, 2010.

At this time, I do not see any delays in starting the awards show on Friday evening, April 2, 2010, after all votes have been tabulated, award winner speeches submitted and added, and all the details are finalized.

I do apologize for any delays, and I hope that you will vote in the finals and enjoy the results.
