Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
"Tooooo infinity... AND BEYOND!"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Li...f_Star_Command
Thanks to the wonders of TEH INTERNET, (*cymbals clash*) I recently rediscovered this little gem of a show. I saw the animated movie some time ago and caught bits and pieces of the series from time to time, but I was never a huge fan. A pang of nostalgia caused me to watch the movie online, and that inspired me to seek out the rest of the series.
It aired from 2000 to 2001 and was created by our very own Msrs. McCorkle and Schooley... directly before they embarked on the KP project. So it's got KP's DNA all over it.
(OK, that came out wrong.)
But it is very interesting to see the unexpected brains, irreverent humor, and parental in-jokes of KP prototyped here... XR doles them out by the dozens (per episode!) and I'm surprised by how many they got away with.
And it is quite amusing to hear Nicole Sullivan voicing a spunky do-gooder with flaming red hair, because Shego is clearly hiding somewhere in that voluptuous spacesuit. When Mira growls in frustration or does one of those trademark sighs that have the pitch-break in the middle, I have to do a double take to make sure it's not our favorite green babe.
Another thing of note is the tone of the show. I guess it was geared toward boys on a channel - ABC - that had different censors than the Disney Channel had, but I'm surprised by some of it - assassinations, seducers, and whole boatloads of weaponry. Not that I'm complaining.
Yet despite the potentially heavier subject matter, the episodes seem significantly more "popcorn" than the average Kim episode.... Though I can't quite put my finger on why, because both shows involved silly villains that got happily wrapped up in 22 minutes. Maybe KP's simple, richly-colored animation style gave it a feeling of more weight, like a metal case on a phone makes it seem more expensive than one with a plastic case, even if the electronics inside are the same.
A highly enjoyable series made by people we know well. Check it out!

Thanks for starting this thread, 'chutes! I discovered this show a couple of years ago, when I stayed up late after a KP rerun and left Disney Channel on. I really enjoyed it, and was disappointed when Disney finally pulled it off the schedule altogether (sound familiar? ).
In fact, I'm honestly surprised that Disney didn't think of rerunning this show - on DC or Disney XD - as a way of promoting Toy Story 3. It would have made a natural tie-in, IMHO, especially if they ran their "Movie Surfer" promos during the commercial breaks. But then, like at most broadcast and cable networks, Disney's programming execs don't exactly display common sense - they're just after a quick buck made off "The Next Big Thing," so that's what they promote (i.e. Hannah Montana; Jonas Brothers; Selina Gomez, etc.).

I always enjoyed Buzz myself. I thought it was a cute show, and I always watched it mainly to hear Nicole Sullivan's work as Mira.

Not to mention the fact that her character was drawn cute!
And she has a devillish streak, particularly when it comes to picking people's brains....
"Ack! Did you wash your hands before you stuck them into my brain?!"

Mira, like Shego, seems the type of character that could carry her own spinoff if the Boys Upstairs chose to greenlight one...
Though... Huh. Could "Kim Possible" be Mira Nova's spiritual spin-off?
As for the show's production team, they did a pretty nice job on the opening credits. It's nowhere near as classy as KP and "CMBM," but they get some pretty cool action scenes, and they mix it around on a fairly regular basis.
Though I think I hit upon what distinguishes Buzz's and KP's feel, and why BLoSC seemed to come off as lighter weight: It's the villains. We can "like" Mira, Buzz, the Commander, etc - the good guys. There is no "Drakken & Shego" equivalent on the Evil side. There are no villains that we can "like." And as they say, a show is only as good as its villains...
EDIT: I take that back somewhat. Nos-4-A2 is one hell of a villain. That roar and his demeanor are chilling even to me...
EDIT2:
Even without top-flight villains, though, the good guys can be pretty hilarious...
Commander: "Why would Rhizome build a death ray?"
LGM trio: "Hyyyyper death-ray!"
Commander: "What's the difference?!"
*beat*
LGM trio: "Mooore death."
Mira: "Then we've got to get to Rhizome!"
LGM trio: "Noooo tiiime..."
Commander: "Then whatta we gonna do?!"
*beat*
LGM trio: "Uh... Hyper-die?"
The delivery made it golden.

Right now Pixar doesn't have any plans to make another Buzz Lightyear movie. They "seriously" need to consider making one. Also if Mira Nova gets her own animated series I would certainly watch it.
