Any Good Movies or DVDs? - starting Fall 2010 until ?

I just bought the 4-disc set of Discovery Channel's mini-series, When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions. It's a 6-part mini-series, narrated by Gary Sinise, that covers American manned spaceflight from Project Mercury to the International Space Station. The episodes include interviews with the astronauts - including Neil Armstrong, who talked about the Apollo 11 lunar landing! That fact alone made this a "must-have" set for me, since Mr. Armstrong's always been reluctant to talk about his experiences in space (he's a very modest, quiet man from what I understand).
The series also features a lot of never-before-seen footage from the NASA archives in addition to the astronaut interviews.
I highly recommend this set to anyone interested in space exploration.

There's a real reel classic showing on TCM right now: Kind Hearts and Coronets, the epitome of the British comedy, made in 1949. Dennis Price plays a man who murders eight of his relatives (all played by Alec Guinness) in order to inherit a dukedom.

How to Train Your Dragon.......

You got to get this one, Y'all. It's a lovely ,lovely little film you will enjoy completely.

Ans even better..................Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.

You need to see this film in 3D to truly appreciate how good the animation is. This animation company, an Australian outfit called Animal Logic, has conquered an amazingly difficult feat in animation which is the proper movement of feathers/hair/water, tremendously difficult substances to move correctly in CGI. Since virtually every single character in the movie is feathered, you can see what an achievement this is. It's a wonderful film you will enjoy greatly. It's worth the money to go see it, I assure you.

I watched a couple of episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show tonight; then I put Ratatouille into my DVD player. Fun movie....

I saw "How to Train Your Dragon" for a second time this evening, after renting it from the lone remaining Blockbuster in the area.

I have to say, I am beginning to strongly consider buying the DVD... The plot is simple (some might say flat), but well done, and it has a surprising amount of oomph and darkness to it. The aerospace engineer in me was positively ecstatic about the series of prototypes and "wind-tunnel" tests that Hiccup performed while designing his stabilator. And God do I love the soundtrack.

One of my recent DVD purchases was one I spotted in my local Walgreen's not too long ago: Four episodes of the Ed Sullivan Show featuring performances by the Beatles when they first arrived in the U.S. back in 1964. (Actually, three shows were in 1964; the fourth was broadcast in 1965.)
The discs are set up so you can either watch each show in its entirety, or you can skip the other acts and just watch the Beatles. It cost me about $19.95 (which isn't bad, really) for the two-disc set.
I'm thinking about buying my sister a copy of this for Christmas, since she was a teen-ager at that time and was a big fan - in fact, she's the one who introduced my brothers and me to the Beatles' music by playing their records all the time on Dad's stereo down in our paneled basement rec room back then. She even attended a Beatles concert in Chicago in '65, I believe.
So I think she'd really enjoy getting this as a gift.


(If I posted this review on a previous version of this thread, I apologize. It's just that this DVD set is one that I feel is worth talking about.)

I saw a copy of the Ed Sullivan-Beatles DVD set at Fry's for $14.99, so I purchased it for my sister like I said I would. That's two Christmas gifts I've bought already...

I remember seeing lots of promos for this movie She's Out of My League a while back, and the premise kind of intrigued me because of my Tara-dating-the-chess-team-captain fanfic. Anyway, today I borrowed the DVD from the library. Wow, was that ever a waste of 104 minutes. When did "humor" become synonymous with "F-word"?

I guess I'm just not in the target audience for that flick.
