Right, so I've been a moderately nuts "Neon Genesis Evangelion" fan since... about December, when CodyMacArthurFett gave me the box set for Christmas.

For those of you who haven't heard of it, "Evangelion" is an apocalyptic mecha anime series which revolves around the efforts by the paramilitary organization NERV to fight monstrous beings called Angels, using giant mecha called Evangelions which are piloted by select teenagers - one of whom is the primary protagonist, Shinji.

The show infamously deconstructs the themes and motifs of the mecha genre and later shifts to psychoanalysis of the main characters, who suffer from a host of emotional problems and mental illnesses.

Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series, battled clinical depression prior to creating the series, and the psychological aspects of the show are based on the director's own experiences with overcoming this illness.

So... Yeah. Things got pretty weird. Very good, but weird all the same.

As for the AMV, I heard "Audience of One" by Rise Against on the radio while I was between episode 24 and 25 of the series, and the song really stuck in my head. It really seems to fit Shinji's perspective and the general tone of "Eva" very well.

Enjoy!
