How Was Your Day? (#15 in a 4-issue limited series)

Guess it's time to continue with a new iteration... (and bonus points to the first person who gets the reference in the thread title).

This week's been a pretty good one for me, work-wise. Got a few special assignments completed, haven't been bothered with inane junk, got some closure on a couple of open items...

And now I'm actually looking forward to a tremendous sports weekend. The Detroit Tigers have two games at Yankee Stadium, hoping to repeat their feat of 2006 (knocking off the Yankees in the ALDS); the undefeated Michigan Wolverines renew the rivalry of the Little Brown Jug with the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday; the 3-0 Detroit Lions pay a visit to Jerryville *coughcough* I mean, Cowboys Stadium on Sunday afternoon (I absolutely hate the Cowboys, and hope that the Lions tear them apart); and the Red Wings have three games to wrap up their preseason (about the only time I don't care about the Wings winning inasmuch as they stay healthy and get ready for the games that count).

Looking at new smoker/barbecue/grill setup, probably pick it up tomorrow and give it a spin Sunday, weather permitting. Next project is finding a good source of hard wood for same.

Off to the boozeatorium shortly for end of the week Guinness and food that i didn't cook.

I went off call last night. Now I'm writing on my conputer from South Padre Island. I flew down from Midland to be at the wedding of the son of one my lifelong friends. They're getting married on the beach.

As to the reference, I remember 4 issue limited series heppening a lot in Marvel Comics publishing, and DC comics too I guess. But I don't know the exact reference.

Helped Mom bring in the groceries this afternoon; did my laundry - that sort of fun stuff.
No job offers worth applying for. I got an answer to an e-mail inquiry I sent about a prospect in downtown Go City this morning - a lady called to answer my questions about the length of the assignment (temp job until December); and how much it pays (far too low for me to take it). All the openings I saw in my e-mail today were for jobs I'm not qualified to take (supervisory or management positions; jobs that require a 4-year degree, etc.). At least I'm still eligible for unemployment....
And late tonight I found out that my brother-in-law's mom just passed away. That means sometime in the coming week I'll be going to a wake and a funeral - I just don't know when yet.

The exact reference comes from the final issue of Marvel's run of The Transformers (from which my current image comes). Unlike most LS that spun off new ongoing series, Transformers had continued from its limited series into an ongoing series starting with issue 5 (which has one particularly iconic cover). So, when the series was cancelled, they decided to put the legend #80 in a four-issue limited series above the logo.

Well, I was massively disappointed with the rainout last night. In my opinion (and that of many other Tigers fans), they should never have attempted to start the game if the rain was already coming down by the time of the first pitch, with a pretty big pattern descending upon them. Instead, we basically get wasted starts by two of the best pitchers in the AL, CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander, and because of a recent change in playoff rules, Game 1 will be resumed where they left off in the middle of the 2nd inning instead of being replayed in its entirety. This means that, while both teams can use new pitchers, the lineup will remain the same, and the Tigers' Game 1 lineup was geared toward the lefty Sabathia - they'll be facing right-handed Ivan Nova instead, giving the Yankees a bigger advantage.


Anyway, I restocked my groceries last night, enjoyed a couple of hard boiled eggs with my breakfast this morning, and I'm getting set for the renewal of the Little Brown Jug, the rivalry game between Michigan and Minnesota which was last played in 2008.

Well, my friend's son's wedding went off without a hitch and was quite an affair, with everyone enjoying themselves immensely with dancing throughout the night. It was quite a shindig. Nice wedding ceremony on the beach at South Padre Island, too.

Yesterday I helped my brother put up part of our Halloween decorations (he's putting the rest up today); then I went to pay my cubicle rent and do a little shopping. I was disappointed to learn that our local Barnes & Noble has a very small section set aside for books on transportation - planes, trains, automobiles, ships - that sort of thing. It's only one small bookshelf set near the entrance to the washrooms on the second level. And it wasn't very well-stocked, either. It mostly held automobile shop manuals. And it only had a handful of aviation books!
I found a couple of things I liked in another section, and when I went to pay for them I complained to the cashier about their transportation section. I don't know how much good it'll do, though...

Typical Sunday (brunch with dad, take him to the store), and then it turned particularly great as I got to watch another Lions comeback win.

Yeah, the Cowboys really juiced the pooch on that one. Actually I'm kind of satisfied the Lions won. It's been a very long time for them. I don't even know if they've ever been 4-0 before. And it's fine with me because right now I'm so PO'd at Romo. 3 passing TD's, yeah, fine. With 2 interceptions run back for TD's. Uh-uh. Won't cut it. The Cowboys just aren't what they used to be under Tex Schramm.

Anyway, I flew back to Midland today, taking the cattle car of course. ...And the the flights had to be completely full ....And I always some big doofus sitting next to me always spilling over into my seat ......and the plane had to make two stops before it finally made it home. Four hours total. Ughhhhhhhhh........

Did you ever see the comedy film Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy? Martin's torturous journey home begins when he's bumped out of first class into economy on his flight, and he ends up sitting next to John Candy's character, an enthusiastic but pushy traveling salesman. That's what came to mind when I read your post.
Anyway, sorry you had such a grueling trip home.
My day was fairly boring; the highlight was when I was sent to the store to get something for dinner and took the opportunity to also buy a few junk-food goodies for myself. Other than that, I sat around and read for awhile and then watched some TV.
