Okay, I've been thinking - if we know that Earth's orbital speed (the speed at which it orbits around the Sun) is around 29.78 km/s (66615.9 mph) and the fact that even with such speed we still need a year to get around the Sun which is only 1 AU away from Earth, shows us how vast the Universe really is.

It finally happened. 36 years after it's launch Voyager I has left the Solar System and entered interstellar space, becoming the first man-made object to do so.

Re: General Discussion 8
On this date in 1779 a squadron commanded by John Paul Jones in USS Bonhomme Richard wins the Battle of Flamborough Head, off the coast of England, against two British warships. USS Bon Homme Richard defeats HMS Serapis. The colors shot away Jones was asked by the British captain, Richard Pearson, if he was surrendering replied“I have not yet begun to fight!”
Serapis was transferred to the French later who then commissioned Serapis as a privateer under a master named Roche who planned to use the ship against the British in the Indian Ocean. The ship was lost in low farce when in July 1781 off the coast of Madagascar a sailor accidentally dropped a lantern into a tub of brandy, setting her ablaze.

Talk about embarrassing! Wonder what the French government did to her captain for losing his ship that way?

Not so much for losing the ship as for the fact that it was the good brandy that burned up......
