Tom clancy and other thrillers

Particularly enjoyed his early stuff, read Hunt For Red October in one sitting, I had wondered why he hadn't published in a while. Considering how prolific he once was, whatever illness led to his death may have been a factor.

Yeah, I was rather surprised by that as well. I enjoyed the latest books too, like the ones involving Jack Ryan, Jr., who pretty much followed his father's footsteps in the shadow world with the Campus.

I read his earlier stuff, but abandoned him about a decade ago.

Cussler is still my man for thrillers, even though he's also lost a bit off his fastball over the years.

I, too, was shocked and disappointed by Mr. Clancy's death.
I've got several of his books - The Hunt For Red October; The Cardinal of the Kremlin; The Sum of All Fears; The Bear and the Dragon; as well as a copy of a non-fiction book he wrote about U.S. Navy submarines. I enjoyed them all, especially Hunt For Red October. I bought my first copy of that book right after seeing the film starring Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery. Of course, the book's plot was far more complex than the movie's was - they leave a great deal out any time they adapt a book into a film - but I enjoyed it. I understand that novel is now required reading at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
