What Are You Currently Reading? Vol. 5
I just got the next two Longmire books from Amazon: Depths Of Winter, and Land Of Wolves. I'm going to start Depths Of Winter tomorrow.

After I mentioned W.E.B. Griffin's The Corps series last week (while discussing Scotch whisky) I decided to reread it. I'm now on the fifth novel, Line of Fire.

I just started a book I bought a few years ago, then set aside: Inside The Oval Office: The White House Tapes From FDR To Clinton by William Doyle. It deals with the audio recordings made by the presidents in the Oval Office, starting with Franklin Roosevelt's early experiments with a system that recorded sound signals on ribbons of motion-picture film, and leading up to the modern electronic systems used as recently as the Clinton administration. Not only does it contain actual transcripts of these presidents' conversations; it also tells about each man's style of conducting business as the Chief Executive. It also gives some history about the Oval Office itself - when it was built; what renovations were done to it down through the years - that sort of thing. I've already learned things I never knew before about presidential history, and the story of the White House itself. I'm currently reading about Harry Truman's administration - I'm curious as to what else I'll find out in this tome.

I am now working my way through the series of novels by Brad Thor featuring US antiterrorism operative Scot Harvath. Now on #3, State of the Union, published in 2004.
I have mostly avoided this genre over the last couple of decades, but it's such a struggle to find anything worth reading. These have been not awful so far.

I'm currently rereading C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower novels. Right now I'm going through Mr. Midshipman Hornblower - the book that tells us about the beginning of Hornblower's career in His Majesty's Navy at the start of the Napoleonic Wars.

I'm still working through Lieutenant Hornblower, the second book to trace his career. I know I've read these books countless time before, but I still enjoy them.

I put aside the Hornblower books and picked up my copy of The Hunt For Red October again. I really enjoy this book; there's so much in it that was left out when they adapted it into the 1990 film with Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin.
