After I mentioned W.E.B. Griffin's The Corps series last week (while discussing Scotch whisky) I decided to reread it. I'm now on the fifth novel, Line of Fire.

I just started a book I bought a few years ago, then set aside: Inside The Oval Office: The White House Tapes From FDR To Clinton by William Doyle. It deals with the audio recordings made by the presidents in the Oval Office, starting with Franklin Roosevelt's early experiments with a system that recorded sound signals on ribbons of motion-picture film, and leading up to the modern electronic systems used as recently as the Clinton administration. Not only does it contain actual transcripts of these presidents' conversations; it also tells about each man's style of conducting business as the Chief Executive. It also gives some history about the Oval Office itself - when it was built; what renovations were done to it down through the years - that sort of thing. I've already learned things I never knew before about presidential history, and the story of the White House itself. I'm currently reading about Harry Truman's administration - I'm curious as to what else I'll find out in this tome.
