I've now read all four of David Weber's "Manticore Ascendant" Novels - A Call To Arms, A Call To Duty, A Call To Vengeance; and A Call To Insurrection. These books take place about 400 years before the time of Honor Harrington, and they tell about the early days of the Manticoran Navy as it begins to transition from a mere system-defense force to a true interstellar navy. Plenty of political and military intrigue in each book, too, just like the Harrington novels. Mr. Weber co-wrote these with Timothy Zahn and Thomas Pope, and they're all currently available from Baen Books in hardcover, paperback, and e-book editions.
BTW, there'll be another Honorverse anthology due out on February 7th. Its title is What Price Victory? I'm going to get a copy as soon as it comes out.
Today I finished re-reading one of my Longmire books, Dry Bones. Sheriff Longmire investigates the murder of a Cheyenne rancher on whose property a T-Rex skeleton is found, since his death complicates the question of just who will profit from the auction of the fossilized remains. (And there'll be another Longmire book out on Sep. 5, The Longmire Defense.)
